FREquently Asked Questions

Everything You Need to Know About Fyrtle

We love questions! And we encourage thoughtful discussion focused on your family building goals and dreams. Our growing team of clinicians, coaches, and care navigators are highly qualified to help you. Here are some common questions our clients have been asking.

What’s the best way to get started with Fyrtle?

Thank you for considering Fyrtle! Our team is thrilled to help you and to answer your questions. Your best no-cost, no-obligation option is to take our 10 minute Fyrtle LifePlan quiz and to schedule a complementary 15-20 minute conversation with a highly knowledgeable Fyrtle care navigator. Please email us at service@fyrtle.com to get started.

I’m primarily interested in egg freezing. How can Fyrtle help?

We initially help by starting a dialog with you, and listening closely to your current and specific family building goals. We are in awe of the medical science that now offers excellent fertility preservation opportunities. And there are several different pathways to consider, taking key factors into account, such as your age and ovarian potential, your health status, affordability, and desire to get started.  Since Fyrtle isn’t actually “in the business” of freezing eggs, we believe the information we can provide to you before and throughout your journey will be highly personalized, up-to-date, and unbiased.

Do you accommodate men who are interested in family building?

Absolutely! We are seeing that men are increasingly exploring their family building goals and want to know how their health and well-being impacts their fertility. With Fyrtle’s comprehensive and knowledgeable team, we can “cut to the chase” and discuss testing and care options for your family building now or in the future. For many men, their journey might rely on women who donate eggs and others who are gestational carriers, and our Fyrtle team has extensive experience providing specialized guidance with those pathways.

If we’re primarily interested in some basic fertility testing, including genetic carrier screening, are you able to help us?

Indeed we can! Fyrtle believes that everyone has a right to know about their fertility potential, whether they are interested in growing their family now, soon, or in the future. We also believe all people interested in growing their family should be offered genetic carrier screening in the preconception timeframe. We recognize that many potential problems can be identified sooner rather than later, and that knowledge is power. In addition to ordering the testing we can discuss results with you and make recommendations for appropriate follow up and/or referrals for specialized care. We are also happy to coordinate basic fertility testing with your primary care providers.

We’re a male/female couple who have been trying to get pregnant but haven’t been successful, and we’re wondering about our next steps. How can you help?

Fertility challenges are increasingly common and can often be daunting for many couples who want to grow their family now. A knowledgeable Fyrtle clinician will discuss with you potential roadblocks to conception, what testing is available for both partners, and when specific treatment options should be considered. In many situations, working with a Fyrtle coach and/or navigator can help you seek specialized care sooner and more efficiently. For many people, roadblocks to care involve their insurance coverage (or lack thereof), affordability factors, and locating top notch fertility subspecialists and clinics. Since Fyrtle is independent and not providing actual fertility treatments, we can objectively point you in the right direction and help you as your journey unfolds.

What health issues can interfere with fertility?

Our Fyrtle team has heard thousands of times from our patients: “We wish we had known...”  Since fertility care has traditionally been part of the women’s health arena, common health challenges are known to interfere with female fertility, including PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), endometriosis and pelvic pain, uterine fibroids, cervical factors, prior STIs (sexually transmitted infections) and tubal disease, obesity and metabolic challenges, genetic factors, and diminishing ovarian reserve. Sadly, many of these issues are overlooked or not discussed in depth when women seek ‘routine’ care. Fyrtle’s major goal is to prioritize preconception care and to help our clients identify potential health challenges long before family building is desired.  For men, sperm testing can often identify critical fertility challenges, and having this information in advance of family building is vital for future success.

Do you work with LGBTQIA+ people?

Absolutely! We are committed to discussing pathways to parenthood, fertility options, and family building for all. And our Fyrtle team has extensive expertise in sperm and egg donation and the specialized field of gestational carriers. Also, insurance and affordability options are frequently changing, and we can assist with navigating those opportunities.

Can you help us navigate what fertility clinics and other specialists we should work with?

We can! The reality is that most subspecialty fertility clinics in the U.S. provide excellent care, but outcomes are highly dependent on each individual’s health history and challenges. And often one of the common criticisms we hear about some clinics relate to less-than-optimal explanations and care navigation. We can help supplement key ‘Why’ and ‘How’ information. Fyrtle is not affiliated with any subspecialty clinic or IVF network, and that gives us the opportunity to provide independent and unbiased information. We can also point you to other objective resources and help you interpret and ‘read between the lines’ of published outcomes data for IVF.

Do you work with my other health care providers?

It would be our honor and privilege to collaborate with your health providers. But we also recognize that your health providers are busy people, and may not know all of your personal goals and circumstances. The Fyrtle team can certainly help coordinate your testing, provide written consults to your health providers, and even have direct conversations with them as needed or requested.

We have some questions about my recent miscarriages. Can you help us?

Miscarriage is one of the most disappointing and sad events in reproductive medicine. And while a great deal of helpful clinical science is known, much remains to be discovered. Our Fyrtle clinicians, coaches, and navigators have extensive expertise working with patients who have suffered one or more miscarriages. We’d welcome the opportunity to discuss your losses in greater detail, offer options for testing, and try to point you to appropriate treatment options.

We’re interested in a second opinion; can you help?

Yes! This is a common request and we know that many clients welcome the confidence in knowing that the medical care they are receiving is on target. Often, review of pertinent lab and embryology records, when applicable, is a vital part of the second opinion process. Fyrtle can also assist you in obtaining all of your pertinent medical records.

Can you just review my medical records without a consult?

We could, but ultimately it would be best to have a conversation with you before and/or after record review to put your goals and plans into the best context.

I noticed Fyrtle is currently active in NJ, PA, and DE; what if I don’t live in those states?

We are growing, so stay tuned. Our goal is to have licensed clinicians in all 50 states to accommodate potential clients everywhere. However, our Fyrtle coaches and navigators do not generally require state licensure, so they are available to speak with you now. If you’d like to recommend a favorite and respected clinician to Fyrtle to possibly become part of our team, please email us at service@fyrtle.com.

What are your fees and will you accept my insurance?

In order for us to spend the time with you that you deserve it is not possible for us to become participating providers with insurance companies. These companies reimburse primarily for procedures like IVF, and not so well for in-depth consultation, health coaching, or care navigation. We are more than happy to prepare receipts for you listing the consult services we provided, as well as the relevant CPT and diagnosis codes. Many of our clients have out-of-network benefits for health care services that could either be directly reimbursed to you or credited toward deductibles within your plan. Our services are also likely to be reimbursable through your HSA plan.

Our current fee structures are as follows:

Initial 15-20 minute conversation: complementary
Clinical consultation (nurse practitioner): $150 (45 minutes + full report generated)
Clinical consultation (MD): $400 (45 minutes + full report generated)
Health coaching: $100-125 (45 minutes)
Care navigation: $80-100 per hour
Medical record review: $250-300 per hour

Payments are kindly requested prior to client scheduling and/or providing of services.

Is my medical information confidential and safe with Fyrtle?

Yes indeed! Our sophisticated electronic health system and portal communications are fully HIPAA compliant and no personal or medical information will ever be shared outside of Fyrtle without your permission.
